Frate

“Frate” grows out of a practice that places respect for the natural form of the wood at its heart, letting it emerge through minimal yet deliberate interventions. The artist brings out the grain, the twists and the vertical thrust of the material, transforming a raw element into an almost spiritual presence. The dark colour of the friar’s habit, achieved through controlled charring, heightens the sense of austerity and quiet contemplation, while the head, carved with sharper definition and drawing on Bruegelian echoes, introduces a more human, narrative dimension. The work belongs to an artistic path that explores the inner life, bringing to light fragility, resilience and the capacity for transformation.
